Il Tetto Restaurant & Bar
London, England
400 Oxford Street, London, W1A 1AB
I enter London's famous shopping center in the heart of oxford street and get directed to the separate elevator that goes directly to the top floor.
Walking around the corner, I stumble across a tunnel of fairy lights that lead you down to the restaurants front desk. The staff at the desk don't seem very professional but that's just my judgement.
I'm led to the table and as I walk into the room, the atmosphere is already very cosy. Intricate decorations hang from the ceiling and there is a professional dj creating a smooth and calm atmosphere with Italian music.
Quickly, a lovely young lady with a smile on her face brings over a cold glass bottle of water and fills my wine glass. I'm impressed with her politeness and smile as she gives me time to look at the menu. Its a hearty menu with a selection just big enough for a nice choice of italian originals, but not too large to have too much to choose from.
I went for the Pizza Bianca and a side of fondue chips to satisfy my ever loving need for cheese. The pizza is listed as creamy centered mozzarella, fontina, Robiola and sage. I don't even know what Robiola is but i'm already so ready to find out.
it came snappily and hot to the table, with the smell of the hot cheese making my mouth water like a labrador. The only gripe I had was that I didn't think the sage belonged on the pizza, at least not so much of it. It needed to be more presentation that quantity but I was not put off at all.
The pizza dough had a premium texture to it, A sort of perfect middle ground between fresh bread and al dente chewiness. I was very impressed. As far as the fondue chips, They were great but nothing special that I would rave about. I am impressed however that they managed to get the cheese on every single chip and weren't holding back on the fondue.
For a drink, I went with a cold and refreshing cider with brand name 'Sassy'. A quick google search at the table leads me to the page and I briefly learn about its french origin. It's only around the 5% mark but half the bottle made my legs feel a little light and tipsy.
To conclude my final judgement, I think the food is great, the service and also the selection of food. The one thing I have to disagree on is the price. I think it's got a little too much of a mark up, and I can understand that being on top of Selfridges you can get away with that. But is your end goal to leave the customers happy or extort them for an extra few pounds on their bill? You tell me.
The restaurant is a part of Streetsmart, a service where an automatic one pound is added onto your bill to help feed homeless people. That definitely gets my approval.
